Based in Vienna, Virginia, Langley Residential was founded in 1983 by three churches in Northern Virginia. The goal was—and still is—to help adults with developmental disabilities live lives as independent, rewarding and self-sufficient as they can possibly be.
Led by Executive Director Betsy Schatz since 1989, our organization now offers six homes for 24 individuals as well as drop-in supportive services for another 31 individuals in their own homes or family’s homes. With an annual budget of more than $2 million and a staff of more than 40, we successfully serve individuals representing a spectrum of disability so they can enjoy what we refer to as “rich, full lives.”
We’ve been especially challenged recently because the coronavirus has meant that many of our home residents cannot go to their jobs or day programs where they can earn piecemeal wages. We now need to provide daytime supervision in our homes on weekdays, increasing our staffing expense.
This fundraiser is to help us pay for one year of utility bills for our six homes. Your help in covering these basic expenses will allow us to direct much-needed funding from other sources to our programs helping the women and men we serve on a 365/24/7 basis.
Might you consider a gift in 2020? With public funding to help organizations like ours being either static or reduced, despite the ever-increasing costs of providing our services, we are seeking support from every source we can think of. And we would welcome your generous gift today.
Thank you so much for your compassion and thoughtfulness!
