Story
One World, One Run...A Chance to Give

In these uncertain times, it is important to remember that we are not alone.  The effects of this pandemic are touching everyone across the world, regardless of your age, race, gender, or where you live. The pandemic has simultaneously focused our attention on our immediate local communities, as well as highlighted the interconnectedness of all people across the world.

That is why we have titled our fundraising event the ONE RUN, to emphasize that we are all in this together - and that by working together we can overcome the current health crisis.

The ONE RUN is a virtual 5K run that will take place on June 20 or 21 at a time and place of your choosing. We are targeting to raise at least $5,000 for Grassroot Soccer and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. These two non-profit organizations directly support those suffering most from the pandemic in both our local communities, as well as those affected in developing countries across Africa.

Background on Grassroot Soccer

Grassroot Soccer is a non-profit organization that educates, inspires, and mobilizes youth in developing countries, particularly in Africa, to overcome their greatest health challenges and live healthier and more productive lives. Their programs leverage the universal appeal of soccer as the platform to reach adolescents during this critical time. COVID-19 is anticipated to be catastrophic in many parts of Africa due to urban crowding, inadequate sanitation, and lack of medical personnel and facilities. The coronavirus pandemic could overwhelm an already fragile healthcare system, where AIDS and other diseases are already contributing to extremely poor health outcomes.

Background on The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP)
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy is currently focused on working closely with non-governmental organizations to address emergent needs related to COVID-19 in communities across the United States. Focus areas include supporting healthcare and frontline workers through the provision of personal protective equipment. In addition, CDP is supporting quarantined and vulnerable individuals through the provision of food and financial assistance as well as community-based care. Finally, CDP is supporting small businesses with emergency grants and mentoring programs.
