Friends! I am raising donations for Mass Poetry, a poetry outreach organization in Massachusetts that has positively influenced my life in Boston. They organize numerous programs and events not only to help promote poetry and literacy among the general public, but also to help poets find an audience or the tools they need to succeed in their craft. One of my favorites is "Raining Poetry," in which poems magically appear on sidewalks when it rains.
So, much like how people raise money for charity by running a marathon, I'm raising money for Mass Poetry by writing a collection of poems this fall. Since the air is brisk and the leaves are beginning to turn, I've decided to go for a SURREAL and SPOOKY theme: think mysterious flying orbs that could be symbols of urban alienation--or just aliens. Everyone who donates will receive a thank-you award. I will mail you a handmade card featuring an image I've created to illustrate the poem, with the poem handwritten inside. Wow, what a keepsake! If anyone donates an extraordinary amount ($100 or more) I will mail you a package with cards for ALL the poems, so you'll have an entire collection. That said, every donation--no matter the amount--is profoundly appreciated, especially if you don't even live in Massachusetts. Thank you!
To be clear, I am not receiving any money for this. It all goes to Mass Poetry, to help them reach their "Raise Your Verse" fall fundraising goal of $15,000. Raise Your Verse begins September 13 and ends October 25, but you can donate starting now. I will mail awards after October 25.
