The purpose of OLD SCHOOL KITCHEN is to feed the public during this COVID-19 crisis. 100% of all donations will be used toward our mission. For every dollar you donate - you are creating 10 MEALS and employing those unemployed due to the current economic crisis we are ALL living.
This project is a callaboration between Miguel Pires, a restaurant owner/entrepreneur and The QBE Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to creating positive change for all.
The current situation in our Country is that availability in grocery stores of healthy protein and vegetables are scarce. Many are anxious to shop in a store and expose themselves to the COVID-19 virus. We live in a culture where you don’t need to know how to cook to survive; we have community kitchens that do this for us. Some restaurants are unfortunately now closed due to an extreme shortage of customers. These circumstances produce an abundance of restaurant grade food that is not being currently used.
Our plan is to utilize an existing brick & mortar facility that at one time was a working kitchen in a school; hence the name for our project, "OLD SCHOOL KITCHEN". We have done our due diligence to maintain current to building and health codes. We will be the Intermediary for food: people can donate ingredients of any type and we will turn these ingredients into gourmet meals.
Our Mission is two-fold. Our project would put restaurant workers who are recently unemployed due to the COVID-19 crisis back to work. We will produce mass quantities of prepared to-go meals: frozen, refrigerated and some warm to target those that cannot heat the prepared meals. Secondly, we would provide vital nutrition assistance to families and individuals that are identified for financial food assistance through Prince William County, the Town of Haymarket and surrounding jurisdictions. We will work as Food Heroes to deliver meals AND distribute meals through pick-up at our kitchen in Haymarket, VA. The mission of our efforts in this time of crisis is to come together as a community and to the best of our ability see our neighbors through this crisis.
