Help fund One Found Sound’s new education program!
We have officially launched our new education program that centers community and equity. Over the past several months, our musicians have been working with students, educators, and community members to develop curriculums that focus on collaborative and democratic music-making. Our current collaborations with Enriching Lives Through Music (ELM) and Edna Brewer Middle School empower individuals of all levels and ages to become more astute listeners, collaborators, and creators.
We are excited to announce ELMCats, a brand new program developed by OFS in partnership with ELM, and we need your help to make it possible! ELM is an organization that provides music programming to underserved youth in the San Rafael Canal neighborhood, and ELMCats brings students and OFS musicians together for unique educational and performance opportunities.
We will premiere some amazing music videos (OFS style!) at our April watch party, SPRING, which feature side-by-side performances with students from ELMCats, Edna Brewer Middle School, and OFS musicians.
In order to make ELMCats a reality, we’re asking our community to help us raise the funds we need to launch this collaborative program. We have a $6,000 goal to launch One Found Sound’s partnership with ELM. 100% of your contributions will directly support program costs, including:
- OFS musician teaching and performance honorariums
- Audio recording / editing fees
- Video recording / editing fees
Thank you for supporting One Found Sound’s newest educational initiative! Your generosity makes our creative future possible.
Enriching Lives Through Music (ELM) is a full scholarship, multi-year, intensive program that provides music education, ensemble, and performance opportunities to youth to develop the social, emotional, and academic skills they need to succeed in life. Programs include chorus, orchestra, chamber music, and parent music groups. In addition to school-year classes, ELM runs a summer camp, concert series, and provides scholarships for private lessons for exceptionally motivated students. There are no financial barriers to participation.
ELM serves primarily Latinx children and families who live in and attend school in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael, an area of socioeconomic disadvantage in one of the richest counties in the country. The majority of its residents are Latin American immigrants or first-generation Americans.
One Found Sound (OFS) is a conductorless, collaborative orchestra at the forefront of innovative, equitable and barrier-free classical music. OFS challenges classical music conventions and hierarchies from the inside out. We operate without a conductor or music director and all creative choices are made collaboratively and democratically by our 30 core musicians. We are committed to dismantling the oppressive and exclusionary practices of traditional orchestral programming by focusing on championing the works of underrepresented composers.
OFS revitalizes the live classical music experience by cultivating comfortable, informal, and rules-free performance environments. We reject the traditional concert hall experience in favor of concerts where audiences members feel relaxed, seen, and included.
OFS is proud to be launching our inaugural education program, with a commitment to providing music education to underserved communities.
One Found Sound is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
