Now is the time to help and be #Navajostrong! NavajoStrong is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Native-led organization formed to aid, serve, and empower the Navajo community on the Navajo reservation.
The Navajo Reservation is home to over 173,000 Native Americans who operate under their own tribal authority. As of May 19, 2020, it has surpassed New York and New Jersey with the most COVID-19 infections per capita. It is reported that 30 % - 40% of the citizens do not have running water or electricity. Not only are the residents battling a drought, underground uranium poisoning, underfunded Indian Health Services, poverty, and health disparities, they are dealing COVID-19. But, we are a resilient, strong, and proud people! It's NavajoStrong's purpose to serve and empower the Diné people. Please consider donating to this great cause!
Essential Supply Bins: Since April of 2020, we have delivered close to 850 bins to families in need as well as delivering supplies to 7 local chapter houses. The supply bins we've been dropping will help those who can't leave their homes. We get the supplies right to their doorstep if we can, and we also drop off supplies at local chapter houses to be distributed. Typically, it is a 27 gallon bin filled with supplies, 2 cases of water, and 12 rolls of toilet paper, and 4 rolls of paper towels. Optional items include a 55-gallon water barrel, a reusable Sawyer water filter, dog/cat food, diapers, formula, new clothing, Shimásání bi Skirts among other things.
School Supplies: We have partnered up with a couple of different organizations, including Running Strong, to supply kids on the reservations with backpacks full of school supplies. Over 200 have been distributed.
Housing Repair Project: We are working with volunteers and families in need of housing repairs to coordinate efforts and purchase supplies to prepare houses for the winter.
Our mission: NavajoStrong was created to aid the Navajo Community during the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis.
-Assist the vulnerable families and at-risk individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis by providing them with water, food, and enough essential supplies, such as hand sanitizer, soap, and cleaner to last least 2 weeks.
-Empower the people by providing them written education regarding the disease, resources for help, and knowledge about the disease. We aim to provide information in both written Navajo and English language.
-Because some people cannot drive to community distributions or travel on the weekend, we serve those who live in remote areas who cannot travel due to quarantine, lack of transportation, or other factors.
We strive to honor our ancestors and empower the Diné by working hard to help citizens who are affected by disease, poverty, and other health disparities on the Navajo Reservation.
