UPDATED JUNE 2020
A message from Jeff Jones, Head Coach of Old Dominion Men's Basketball, and his wife, Danielle Jones:
This spring we launched an annual ODU Coaches vs. Cancer Campaign to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
When we first joined forces with Coaches vs. Cancer after Jeff's diagnosis, the support from this community was overwhelming. You helped us raise over $75,000 in 2018 to help patients in need. We didn’t want to stop there.
At the ODU Men's Basketball home game on February 8, we kicked off this new campaign with a Miracle Minute fundraiser collection in the stands. All of the proceeds this year went to benefit the American Cancer Society’s childhood cancer initiatives, and we hosted childhood cancer patients and survivors at the game. The ODU community donated $7,329 at the game and $19,100 online for a kickoff total off $26,349.
Thanks to your generosity, we have now contributed a total of more than $100,000 in two years to the American Cancer Society through Coaches vs. Cancer. You are changing lives.
We have also formed an ODU Coaches vs. Cancer Council comprised of members of the ODU basketball family. Our goal is to create annual events that grow every year and give people throughout the community an opportunity to join the fight.
Cancer isn’t a fair opponent, but it’s one that we will all face in some way. We believe that raising money for the fight gives back a sense of control that the disease tries to take from us. We believe it’s a fight we can win, and at some point we will win. But first, we need to play as a team.
We want to thank everyone who contributed at the game on February 8 and online. We are deeply grateful for your support.
