Every eight minutes, the American Red Cross responds to a home fire. Because of our close relationship with local fire departments, the Red Cross is notified whenever a disaster occurs. A team of Red Cross volunteers arrives on scene, often in the middle of the night, to meet families who have lost everything. Amidst this confusion and despair, Red Cross volunteers are the first to offer assurance that things will be okay.
A vital part of Red Cross support comes in the form of immediate financial assistance that empowers survivors to purchase items they need. Families who experience a home fire receive approximately $600 in immediate financial assistance.
Last fiscal year (June 2017 – July 2018), in Orange County alone, Red Cross volunteers responded to 119 home fires and aided 220 families. This is why at the Orange County Heroes Luncheon, to take place on May 3 at Hotel Irvine, the Red Cross is raising funds for Home Fire Financial Assistance. Thanks to the generosity of A Little Help Foundation, funds raised up to $25,000 will be matched. Your support leading up to or at the event can help equip 83 families in Orange County to recover quicker and return to a sense of normalcy.
