OAR is participating in this challenge to rowing clubs around the country to get in shape and raise money to fight cancer. The overall goal is to row a collective 40,000 kilometers and to raise at least $40,000.
Whether you are rowing to be #steigerstrong in support of Coach Gretchen Steiger and her fight against ovarian cancer or supporting another OAR member or friend or family, let's do this together.
During January 2019 PLEASE add your erg meters to our team and consider donating to cancer research. We have put forward a modest goal for our club and hope we will exceed that amount.
Please submit your METERS rowed each week to Gretchen Van Dusen, Team Organizer, at oargirlsteam@gmail.com. On the water meters can also be included.
Go OAR team!! It takes a village!
Message from the organizers:
Let's Support Cancer Research by participating in Row4Cancer as a team and have a chance to Win Concept2 Oars, Concept2 ergs or a NK SpeedCoach.
You all know what we do in January. Yeah, It gets dark early and, for many of us, it’s cold outside. Maintaining focus and purpose during long weeks and months of indoor winter training can challenge, even a committed rower. This year, a group of our rowers are tackling winter training with an added purpose – they have joined the Row4Cancer Challenge to raise money for cancer research and have a chance to win a set of "Skinny" Sweep Concept2 Oars, Concept2 Model D erg, or a NK Speed Coach.
Each team member should committ to raise a minimum of $100 for cancer research. The money goes to fund cancer research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, one of the premier cancer research and treatment institutes in the country. Contributions are tax deductible and Dana Farber will send a written acknowledgement for any contribution over $15.
At the end of this event, there will be a participation drawing to award the oars, ergs, and speed coach. Every registered rower on our team who raises $100 or more for cancer research earns an automatic entry for our team into a participation drawing with a chance to win awesome, new rowing equipment for our team. So, the more our team members who reach their goal of $100, the more chances our team has to win.
