The Icecats have been a weekend home for all of us and our kids. In some cases, for many many years, and in others, just getting started. For all of our kids, we cherish the memories and look forward to many memorable moments to come.
We’ve made some big strides forward this season, toward the goal of getting our kids on the path to playing travel league hockey for the first time. To do this, we had to make investments in additional ice time, beyond what we’ve traditionally had at Lasker Rink. We also worked hard to bring in new coaching talent this season, to give our kids better instruction and attention during games and practices.
We do our best to plan and manage our expenses to match our income. Unfortunately, this year, we were surprised by an unexpected finding by the NY State Department of Labor and IRS, that all of our coaches must be re-classified as payroll employees instead of independent contractors, going back to 2015!! As a result, NY Icecats have had to pay approximately $30,000 in legal fees, taxes, and insurance premiums this year that we simply cannot afford.
We know that being part of the Icecats is already a financial commitment for every family, but we urgently need help from within the Icecats community past and present to help fund this shortfall, and continue to meet our obligations. Please help us by donating what you can. And please help us spread the word by sharing a link to this campaign on facebook or twitter.
Your donation is a fully tax-deductible charitable contribution, as NY Icecats is a 501c3 non-profit, and you will receive a receipt confirming the donation amount.
We are truly and deeply appreciative of your extra financial support, and we can’t thank you enough for your help in allowing us to continue giving our kids the experience of playing this game, and all of the good that comes with it.
Thank you for your generosity,
Morris, Daniel, and Howie
