Hello Friends and Family,
I can't thank everyone enough for your generosity and support as I set out to run the NYC Marathon. Together WE raised $5,500 for a cause extremely close to my heart - and I truly believe we made my Mom proud as I was running in her memory.
I was also running in thanksgiving for my cancer free life - and ironically, that is the reason that I will not be able to run the NYC marathon on November 3.
During my cancer treatment in 1993, my doctor’s removed my cancer infected kidney and I received chemotherapy. Thankfully, this treatment worked and I have been beyond blessed to live a normal life. I had been in touch with my doctor about running the marathon, and after a recent 18 mile training run, a kidney function test revealed elevated numbers. Because of these results and erring on the side of caution my doctor has recommended I forgo running this, or any marathon. Turns out running marathons is extremely hard on the kidneys! https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/newsroom/news-releases/marathoners-take-your-marks--and-fluid-and-salt
I still plan to travel to NYC the weekend of the race and support the other runners and I am thankful for the training experience. Thank you again to those who donated to my fundraiser, I am SO APPRECIATIVE.
If you did not have a chance to donate but you are still interested, it is even more apparent that we need to find a cure for this horrible disease and continue supporting those who are going through it, before, during, and after treatment.
