As many of you know (and for those who don’t), my father was an NYPD detective for 30 years. My family and I have been incredibly blessed that he made it home safely to us each night during his career. Others weren’t so lucky. My father’s partner was killed on 9/11, and many first responders have lost their lives in the line of duty since then.
In an effort to help those left behind by our fallen heroes, I’ve decided to run the 2019 NYC Marathon with the NY Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund on Team Answer the Call. Their mission is to support the families of New York City Police Officers, Firefighters, Port Authority Police, and EMS Personnel who have been killed in the line of duty.
This charity helps families — through financial assistance and by providing a network of support — during the most difficult times of their lives. I’ve pledged to raise $3,500 for Answer the Call, and hope you’ll consider donating to this amazing foundation! Any amount helps and goes directly to the cause!
“I can still hear the cries of desperation of family members and friends, who were looking in on ground zero, screaming and begging us to find their loved ones after the towers fell. That’s one of the things that have affected me the most. And this is why I support Answer the Call. Anything that assists first responders and their families is so important. They’ve been through a lot.” — Anthony Ricevuto, my father, on why he supports Answer the Call.
