In July of 2019, the Town of Hebron leased approximately 1.5 acres of land to the Friends of the Veterans Memorial Parkway, Inc. (FVMP) for the development of a tribute to those who have served our nation in the Middle East.
It was decided that this new memorial on the Parkway be dedicated to all those who served in the Middle East in the seven counties that comprise Northwest Indiana. These include Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski Counties.
To date, 27 men and women from these seven counties gave the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms in Iraq, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. This memorial will honor their memories, as well as all military personnel from NW Indiana who have served, and continue to serve today in the Middle East.
The site was officially dedicated on November 17, 2019. Going forward, the FVMP plans to work with area Middle East Veterans on a design for the final monument. This campaign has been established to raise the neccesary funds to design this memorial.
