UPDATE: Thank you to Brian, Paul, Nan, Debbie, Rochelle, Art, Lisa, Pace, Lara, Enrique, Nancy, Sally, Lynda, and Marilyn for donating. We still have $965.00 left to raise but we are well on our way. Thank you so much! Please help if you can !
It has been an extremely busy year so far at Florida Wild Mammal Association (FWMA) despite Covid 19 and all of the other weird events taking place in our daily lives!
Its the time of year we call "baby season" that starts in March and lasts until the end of September. This is when all the animals are nesting and our animal intakes increase dramatically as young animals become easy prey for cats and dogs. Adult animals are also on the move in search of additional food to feed their new offspring. FWMA has received over 50 bunnies of which 75% have been caught by cats or dogs. Along with numerous cottontails we are also caring for lots of baby raccoons, opossums, grey squirrels, and even 2 baby armadillos. Mammals aren't the only animals needing care. We have lots of baby birds too. Among these are cardinals, mockingbirds, thrashers, Carolina wrens, swallows, parulas, sparrows, chickadees, and even a cuckoo. Not to mention a few juvenile hawks and owls.
The building we normally use to house all of the babies is a portable building that we appropriately call the Nursery. Our nursery building is older and over the years has had several roof repairs. This year it is in need of a roof replacement and our roofing friend Don L. has very kindly offered to fix it at cost. ($1500) We realize this has been a very difficult year for everyone but are hoping that you can help up with this very vital project. Every little bit helps and is tax deductible too!
Thank you for helping us keep a roof over their heads.
