Pre Covid I had a plan to raise money again for HeadsUpGuys.org using Jiu Jitsu, post Covid it just does not seem possible to do what I had in mind. So I was trying to think of anyother way to raise money for this men's mental health group local to BC. I came up with an idea to run/walk the distance of Vancouver island over the month. I was not sure after talking with my wife if 460 km would be something I could do without causing injury to my knee or lower back. Well after a two week trial and 250 down I am going to go the distance. I am lucky to have access to free counselling through work, and extended health coverage for therapy/counselling as well. The support I have from my partner to get more professional help has been a life changing experience. Working on the depression my injury in 2019 brought to light, as well as identifying issues with validation and body dysmoprhia has really helped me come go grips with issues that have been with me my whole life. Websites like HeadsUpGuys.org that offer free services and tools where critical in getting the ball rolling, that is why I want to raise money for them again this year.
Big thanks to Jordy and Cara for the use of CJ Martial Arts last year to film Jiu Jitsu content, as well as Kevin and Richard for the Uke work. Thanks to Braulio Estima and Kit Dale for a jiu jitsu persepective on deal with adversity and injuries. Harry Jones of Rugby Canada 7s fame as well for the info he shared.
to donate direct though UBC go to their donate page and put in HeadsUpGuys Program G1745.
