You supported and we delivered.
Thanks to your overwhelming support, we funded our last campaign within 36 hours. Since then, we have paid for our website, purchased office supplies, and received our 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS. That’s right - we are now a certified public charity!
We have already begun organizing.
We held two union/community organizing trainings and we are currently working with students to fight against low wages on campus.
Now we need a home - and we have found one.
We want to be accessible enough to serve as many working folks as possible, but charities often struggle just to stay afloat in the downtown area. Fortunately, we have a solution.
The UU is an activist church with a mission toward helping poor and diverse communities. It is an inclusive congregation that welcomes people of all origins, abilities, religious or non-religious backgrounds, identities, and orientations. It has a number of amazing programs centered on personal/spiritual growth and community building.
Our First UU Program: SHOP TALK.
Working in Virginia is tough. You are not alone.
Shop Talk is a group that meets once a week to share stories, challenges, and triumphs on the job and in our communities. Our doors will open to working and unemployed folks that want to learn more about their rights, to vent about a rough week, or just to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.
In collaboration with the Fredericksburg IWW and the UU Church of Fredericksburg, we will host our first Shop Talk meeting in January of 2020.
We fight for a more equitable Northern Virginia by building power on the job and in our communities. We will use the space to achieve that goal through these measurable programs:
· a worker rights hotline;
· collaborative Know-Your-Rights trainings;
· worker and community organizing; and
· issue partnerships with other organizations.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts to help us make this dream a reality. Any help you can give is much appreciated.
