Most of my friends know, but some do not, Safe Harbor Northshore helped me out of a terrible situation. They helped me fill out an emergency protective order that kept my ex from being able to harass or assault me and my children. I was lucky enough to have family to fall back to, but many survivors do not.
In 2019, the Mande Milkshakers brought the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event to Mandeville and we kicked it off with a bang. Over 150 participants helped us raise over $6,500 for Safe Harbor Northshore with this fun and exciting event. The Mande Milkshakers knew right then thatWalk a Mile in Her Shoes Mandeville would be something the community would look forward to each year.
Then 2020 happened. The Mande Milkshakers and Safe Harbor Northshore, like many charities around the world had to rethink how we could raise money in a time when large community fundraising events are not an option.
This year we bring you the Virtual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Challenge. You register as a team or an individual and Walk Your Mile on Your Time. Proceeds from your registration will benefit Safe Harbor Northshore during this much needed time. With your help we hope to raise the bar and raise $8000 this year!
Safe Harbor is a non-profit, non-government agency in St. Tammany Parish serving survivors and their minor children who are victims of domestic abuse. We can provide a safe place to stay and a variety of critical support services ranging from crisis intervention, legal advocacy, playgroups, emotional support, and community-based referrals for kids.
The Mande Milkshakers is the Northshore’s first marching group and women’s organization. With over 80 members, the ladies work year round promoting the pillars of Fun, Friendship, Fitness, and Philanthropy through community and charity events.
Since 2016, the Mande Milkshakers supported local organizations at over 100 events, served over 1000 hours of volunteer service, and raised over $60,000 for various charities through organizational philanthropic efforts. This big hearted group of ladies believes the excitement of performing is second only to the joys of giving.
