It’s time for our annual trek across the state. This is the 6th year our 12 person team has crossed the state from Sioux City to Dubuque. Why? Good friends, the challenge, break from everyday life and a great cause. Relay Iowa was set up as a fundraiser for Restoring Hope Village, an orphanage in Welkom, South Africa, but it also supports many local charities along our route. The Roosters have set a goal of raising $1500 this year.
Some question why a group of 12 women chose to go by a masculine name. Well, a Chicken would never cut it traversing ‘critter run’ at 1 am. We are Roosters! We crow loud and are ready for a fight, cocky as they come when we are out on the road! Sure, those teenage cross county boys may leave some of us eating their dust, but we will still strut into Dubuque like we own the town.
Lastly, and more fitting for what this event gives to each of us:
There’s a morning when presence comes over your soul. You sing like a rooster in your earth-colored shape. Your heart hears and, no longer frantic, begins to dance.
There is a point during this run when presence does come over our souls-somewhere around 3am on Saturday morning. The beauty of our state and the fellowship of our teammates makes this the most meaningful, memorable time of the year...and we dance. Please consider supporting us!
