The occurrence of domestic violence in the United States is staggering: 1 in 4 women have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Many victims are desperate to leave their abuser, but there are countless hurdles that stand in their way. One of the biggest hurdles is financial security. Victims can't afford to support themselves, let alone get legal assistance to help them find safety, so they stay in or return to an abusive relationship. April is Financial Literacy Month. The purpose of Financial Literacy Month is to highlight the importance of economic and financial education. Northwest Advocacy Foundation is committed to helping domestic survivors gain financial independence and empowerment.
Northwest Advocacy Foundation is a nonprofit legal services provider that recognizes and seeks to address the immense disconnect between the needs of victims, and what is actually available to them. We assist victims of domestic violence in a variety of legal issues, including obtaining a domestic violence protection order, securing a protective parenting plan, and addressing housing issues. We also help survivors connect with nonlegal social services, including transitional housing and job training.
