Northstar Tutoring is a free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program for low-income students in grades K-12 living in Washington, D.C. Our mission is to serve our students by providing each child with their own tutor and facilitating twice weekly tutoring sessions and regular mentoring activities. For many of our students, these tutoring and mentoring sessions are the only one-on-one attention they receive all week.
As a small nonprofit, we rely heavily on personal donations to enable us to continue providing these much-needed services. Our amazing tutors all participate on a volunteer basis but we are always in need of funding to help buy supplies, snacks for the students, and help with overhead costs. We also try to make the holidays a little brighter by providing the students with a few gifts. While the kids include some toys and games on their holiday lists, each year there are always requests for the basics we often take for granted – warm coats, pencils and other school supplies, and shoes/winter boots.
Please consider supporting D.C.’s children by giving to Northstar this holiday season. Any contribution is very much appreciated by our students, their parents and Northstar staff!
