We love our neighborhood restaurants and bars here in NYC and we are so grateful to the service industry workers who make them possible.
Governor Cuomo recently announced he was once again closing restaurants in New York City. Restaurants in New York City provided 317,800 jobs and paid $10.7 billion in total wages citywide in 2019. Shutting down these businesses is devastating to hundreds of thousands of Americans. Doing it without corresponding economic relief is unconscionable.
What’s more: it won’t work. Restaurants account for just 1.5% of the spread of coronavirus, whereas at-home gatherings account for 74%. By closing restaurants, you drive more people out of the safe, regulated environments and into unregulated and uncontrolled private events where 74% of the spread is happening.
We want to help. We want to keep New York safe from COVID and keep our restaurants and bars alive. That's why we're raising money for ROAR and Robin Hood NYC to help get cash relief to restaurant and bar workers whose livelihoods have been impacted during this pandemic. We'll match every contribution up to $10,000.
Kairos HQ is a startup studio that builds businesses dedicated to making life more accessible and affordable, across housing, childcare, and healthcare. We believe meeting basic needs should be basic.
When the pandemic hit, we launched a Renter Stimulus program to get an average of $1,400 back into every renting American household and a 10k Jobs initiative to retrain 10,000 out-of-work Americans in home and healthcare jobs.
Now we want to help the restaurant and bar workers who's livelihoods have been impacted by these decisions.
