To Our 4-H Camp Family and New London County Community,
In these unprecedented times, we are enormously grateful for the support of our Foundation Members, Camp and Teen Ambassador families, and our whole community.
Per his executive order, Gov. New Lamont has indicated that overnight camps should not operate this summer. In addition to that we have decided that opening our day camp would still put our campers, families, staff and community at an unnecessary risk. We have sent a letter our to already registered families indicating next steps.
However, we continue to have off-season maintenance and upkeep expenses. And unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we have had to cancel our annual auction. In this auction we typically raise around $40,000 which gives us the necessary funds to keep our camp maintained, create programs, keep our current rates and create camp magic and long-lasting memories for the children and teens that we serve in our area.
While we were unable to hold our annual auction, we still intend to operate camp next summer in 2021, and for many summers to follow, and so our need for the funds generated by that auction remain.
The New London County 4-H Camp is dedicated to giving our community’s children and teens a safe place to be children, develop self-confidence, practice skills, challenge themselves, problem solve and grow. In today’s world, things are scary and sometimes overwhelming for children and us adults, as well. Camp is a place where we protect and celebrate the joy of childhood.
A place where your only goal and the only thing you, as a camper, need to think about is catching a fish, hitting a bullseye with an arrow, being part of a drama production, being in the moment you are in right now, feeling safe and experiencing the joy and magic of the great outdoors.
Although that is the child's goal, they are experiencing so much more at camp, they are problem solving, they are working together, they are communicating, they are trying new things, they are reflecting, they are succeeding. They are developing a sense of confidence and understanding their own capabilities and their value in our community and our world.
We hope to be able to continue our camping program for the 2021 Summer Season!
We appreciate that these are stressful times for all; we greatly appreciate any contribution you can make to help us to make this the best camp season and to achieve our mission: to change the life of a child in 6 days. Please donate today.
Thank you so much for your support!
