I went to my first SMWC meeting in 2013 and have been a member ever since. In those seven years, I have watched SMWC work toward universal health care, a living wage, earned paid sick time for all workers, and many other fights for justice in Maine and beyond.
I’m a member of the Workers’ Center because I believe that grassroots organizing holds tremendous promise for creating a world where everyone’s human rights are met—where people don’t just survive, they thrive.
As a member of SMWC’s Fundraising Committee, I know just how much this organization does with a small amount of resources. The people who power SMWC are largely volunteers, with only three paid staff who help to coordinate the work of the membership. I’ve never worked with an organization that makes dollars stretch as far and mean so much.
If you know me, you know that my high school musical theater background means that I *LOVE* karaoke. I’m excited for the chance to sing my little heart out for an organization I also love so much. Thank you for supporting this work and this absurdly sweet fundraiser.
In gratitude, love, & solidarity,
