HELP ME RAISE MONEY FOR LOSTnFOUND YOUTH
Competitive lifting is in my heart. It helps keep me sane. It is part of my identity. Unfortunately, it is no longer a dream I prusue due to the gender politics associated with the sport. There are very few spaces that I can be competitive AND express my gender. That said, I try to support positive aspects of the sport in any way I can. For the past few years I have supported Team Lis Smash in their efforts to bring competitive lifting into LGTBGEQ+ spaces in Atlanta. Through the hard work of Team Lis Smash I am seeing more and more of my trans and gender expansive peers having opportunities to get on the platform. I have sponsored, fund raised and judged the meets Team Lis Smash produces all of which are free of weight categories and gender categorites. This year I am super excited to get on the platform and lift, in a whole new way!
In the few years I spent as a competitive powerlifter I was able to achieve some really great things. I hold the GA state M1 record for bench press and I won the M1 Division at 2017 Bench Press Nationals which resulted in an invite to participate on the National Team in 2018, an invitiation I ultimately declined due to my experiences at Nationals related to gender politics which made me lose hope for the sport and fall into my injuries instead rehabbing and pushing through. The space was not safe and I could not compromise my values solely so I could go and lift.
But this year is different, I am getting on the platform in a whole new way. No powerlifting for me, I am taking a shot at a clean and jerk. WHAT?!?! Yep a clean and jerk.
My goal is to raise $1 for each pound in my three platform attempts. I am shooting for a total of 475 pounds, with my max lift being #185. I am currently sitting comfortable at a #160 pound lift and have 4 months to improve my form and technique to get to that #185. It's a boob and belly problem y'all not a strength problem which means I am also using this opportunity to get closer to my comfortable walking weight of #185 so that I can prepare my body for the changes to come. By supporting me with this event you are helping to hold me accountable in returning to a state of positive self care, something I have been lacking since I stopped getting on the platform.
If you can't help financially you can still help! Ask me how I am doing in the gym? Don't feed the dragon sweets and junk food. Encourage me to do things that are active with you! I do best when I am called out or validated by others. If you lift or want to learn join my team, we can make it our team and train in my garage.
Thank you for your consideration!
