Like many nonprofits in NYC, NIA has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. While we’re among the first to be called upon to respond during a crisis, we are faced with budget cuts and funding uncertainty at a time when our communities need our services more than ever. NYC is the hardest-hit place in the U.S. and our communities deserve more. With your help, we'll be able to continue serving them through our social services assistance and virtual after school programs.
How We Have Adapted During COVID-19
We are receiving more than 3x the number of requests for social services assistance daily from people of all ages throughout NYC. We provide free assistance with a range of concerns, including healthcare, SNAP, Meals on Wheels, Home Health Aides, senior support, unemployment, price gouging, and more. Despite budget cuts, we are continuing to expand our services in response to community needs.
Since NYC schools are closed for the rest of the school year, our over 40+ after school programs have closed their physical locations, and for some programs, funding cuts have made the future very uncertain. Unfortunately, with some funding on pause, we have been forced to reduce offerings and close programs. This said, we are thankful for the many after school programs we're able to continue to operate virtually, where our staff have launched online communities for students to connect with friends, attend classes and clubs, and be themselves in this stressful time.
We remain just as dedicated to our students and families as ever. Our staff are providing resources to families, conducting wellness checks, and even making thank you videos to our city's essential workers. We also recently held a Virtual Paint Night and Adult Literacy Class that was open to the public. These services are continually evolving.
Why We Need Your Support
What we need now is your financial contribution to continue operating, support our staff, and serve an increased client workload due to COVID-19. Your donation will provide hope to our communities, especially to the thousands of children and seniors who heavily rely on our services. Every dollar counts.
Who We Are
Since 1981, NIA Community Services Network, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been actively engaged in creating solutions that address the problems our communities face throughout NYC. We provide nearly 9,000 children, seniors, and families with free after-school, events, family guidance, parent education, and community assistance for seniors, immigrants, veterans, and others in need.
COVID-19 will not stop our commitment to strengthen and empower children, families, and communities through after school and vital human services. Those who depend on us most cannot wait for “normalcy” to arrive.
