What if you were living on borrowed time?
Rayshawn Sylvester is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2006, Rayshawn was 18 years old when she first learned she had polycystic liver disease.
Unfortunately, the severe enlargement of her liver has caused other organs to malfunction. Rayshawn is currently unable to stand, reach, bend or lift due to her enlarged organs which has taken a physical and emotional toll on her quality of life. To add to her challenges, her liver function is steadily declining. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical to her survival.
During this difficult time, Rayshawn is thankful for her three beautiful children ages 2, 4 and 13 who all worry about her health. Rayshawn enjoys being independent. After she receives her lifesaving transplant, Rayshawn is looking forward to exercising again, engaging with her children physically and emotionally, reading, cooking, yoga, and taking lots of road trips. But right now, she needs your help.
Unfortunately, Rayshawn's hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average liver transplant costs more than $812,000, and that's only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Rayshawn still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they're as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Rayshawn is unable to work due to her health issues, further adding to her financial burdens.
