Transplant Type: Double Lung
Jim Parker is awaiting a new lease on life. Five years ago, he was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease. His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of lung disease. Jim’s doctors are unable to pinpoint the cause of his illness. His lung function has decreased over time, and he is now on supplemental oxygen to help him breathe. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical for his survival.
During this difficult time, Jim is thankful for the love and support of his wife of 35 years, Kelly, their two grown sons, and their family and friends. Jim’s illness causes worry for his family and prevents him from being as active as he longs to be. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will prolong his life and free him from supplemental oxygen. Jim is thankful that he still has his independence and is able to exercise, maintain his career, and enjoy time with his family, but his illness is progressive and has already slowed down his physical activity. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can continue an active life, be able to golf again, enjoy time with his family, and someday become a grandfather. But right now, he needs your help.
The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Jim lives an hour and a half from his transplant center, and traveling back and forth for appointments gets expensive. When he receives his transplant, he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.
