Transplant Type: Kidney
Evan Fairbanks is awaiting a new lease on life. A misdiagnosed case of vasculitis led to extensive kidney damage, and earlier this year he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). His diagnosis came as a shock—he went to the doctor with what he thought was a simple case of gout but learned it was a bi-product of kidney failure. His illness leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
During this difficult time, Evan is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Emily, and their family and friends. Evan and Emily are newlyweds and are hoping to start a family soon, so his illness causes them a lot of worries. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give him back his energy and improve his health. He enjoys beekeeping and spending time with his family, and thankfully he is still able to do those things despite his health. Evan wants nothing more than to be healthy so his life can return to normal and he can enjoy life with Emily. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $442,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
