Transplant Type: Kidney
What if you were living on borrowed time?
Devon Clemmings is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2010, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure and kidney disease. His condition is further complicated because he suffers from diabetes as well. Devon developed stage V kidney failure three years ago, and now doctors now say a kidney transplant is necessary. While awaiting his transplant, he endures regular dialysis treatments, which take a toll on his quality of life.
During such a challenging time, Devon is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system of family and friends. His two children have been by his side every step of the way. Their wonderful family and friends have provided much needed love, encouragement and help to make sure everything is taken care of. While it’s been very hard for Devon and his family, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Devon looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to live a healthier, fuller life, and to spend many more years with his loved ones, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Devon’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the costs of the transplant, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Devon lives more than 120 miles from the transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, Devon and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital, during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Devon. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Colorado Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Devon Clemmings” in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
