Transplant Type: Kidney
Your donation can make a difference! What if you were living on borrowed time?
Branham Bergeron’s second chance at life began on October 5, 2020, after he received the long-awaited call that a kidney match had been found. Prior to receiving this lifesaving call, his kidney function had deteriorated to a point he had to be placed on dialysis three days per week. After receiving the call, his hope was restored and a new life began after an 8-year battle with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) an inherited disorder in which clusters of cysts developed in Branham’s kidneys, causing his kidneys to enlarge and lose function. Branham was no stranger to PKD as both his mother and sister suffered from the condition. However, unlike his family he has been granted the gift of life which will enable him to overcome his hereditary condition.
Although Branham is thankful for the sacrifice that was made by his donor family that gave him new life, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive costing on average $2,900 per month. These vital medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. For Branham to prevent his body from rejecting his new kidney he needs your help.
