Living Donor: Liver
What if you were living on borrowed time?
Amy Potter felt moved to donate a portion of her liver when she saw a plea on social media looking for potential donors for a lifelong family friend. While she had not seen her friend for quite some time, she was moved and compelled to save his life. Amy was thrilled to find out she was a match for her friend! By donating a portion of her liver, Amy is able to offer her friend a second chance at life. Amy’s family is supportive of her selfless decision, and the transplant will take place in the near future.
Unfortunately, Amy’s gift of life doesn’t come without its struggles.
While the medical costs related to Amy’s donation are covered by her friend’s insurance, she and her family will still feel a financial impact. Amy will have to be off work for at least six weeks without pay following the transplant. The transplant center is more than 80 miles away from Amy’s home, and she and a caregiver will have to stay nearby as she recovers. She will also have to travel back and forth for follow up appointments after the transplant, adding to the financial strain.
Amy is thankful for the chance to be of service to someone in need. She views the opportunity as something that she had to do. It is worth all of the recovery to give someone she knows the rest of their life back. Amy has a wonderful support system of family and friends and enjoys spending time with her loved ones, doing crafts, and creating memories. While her friend has spent years missing out on the things that most people take for granted due to his health, Amy looks forward to creating memories with her friend for the rest of their lives, but right now, she needs your help.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Amy.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Amy Potter” in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
