We cannot believe the day has come to announce that our first class of 24 incredible young ladies will be GRADUATING high school in 2021!
Like much of the world, the pandemic forced The Jeneba Project to postpone all in-person schooling since April and we faced the devastating loss of one of our incredible teachers.
In response, we rolled out a low-tech educational plan for all Excellence Academy students. Every girl received a radio to access live curriculum each week and cell phones that connected them to their teachers for regular check-ins. Additionally, we distributed necessities like soap, masks and food to our students throughout this rough time. We have also been building an additional classroom and installing solar panels to accommodate our growing school.
We are now getting ready for our first cohort’s senior year! If you have not already met our students in the video above, make sure to watch and contribute to our campaign!
We focus on four pillars of success:
1. Education quality: By focusing on small classes of 24 girls that share 6 teachers, we provide the personalization and focus needed to strengthen foundations.
2. Civic and Female Empowerment: On “Special Fridays”, we teach topics critical to civic education with a special focus on female empowerment.
3. Critical Thinking: By moving from corporal punishment to PBIS (Positive behavioral interventions and support) techiques, we create an environment where girls feel comfortable posing critical questions rather than avoiding wrong answers.
4. International exposure: We host wonderful international guest lecturers. They've expanded computer literacy skills; taught girls about periods and pregnancy; and conducted art therapy exercises to foster self-esteem and resolve conflicts.
We are ready for a revolution. Join us in creating this next generation of women who are working hard to make their future a better one for themselves, their families and their communities.
Together we can change the NextJen.
With our deepest thanks,
Joseph, Liat and the Jeneba Project team!
