It’s time for a New Year’s Revolution—an evolution of ourselves and our communities. 2018 is our year—join us in dreaming and achieving a new vision of the future. We have to imagine it to do it.
As we count down to the new year, we'd like you to see the faces and hear the voices of the real people who are making their dreams a reality: dreams of a different way of life, grounded in deep democracy, sustainability, and human rights.
These leaders come from everywhere from Boston to DC to North Carolina to California and more. They're working with their communities to take control of their resources and the decisions that affect their lives, and they're organizing for justice and respect for the earth.
We'd like you to hear the revolution they want to see for themselves and the world in 2018. And we'd like you to see how they're building collective power by being part of a nationwide network, New Economy Coalition.
2017 has been a challenging year. It seems like natural disasters and policies threatening our ecosystems, families, and communities have lurked around every corner.
In response, our movement has grown stronger. People like you have come together across sectors and regions to defend recover, and rebuild.
At NEC, we’ve seen that growth in our network, too. In 2017 we:
Grew from more than 160 to more than 200 member organizations across the U.S.
Launched a project to develop a toolkit of resources for people who want to transform their electric co-ops into democratic leaders in affordable clean energy.
Distributed $25,000 to youth and frontline groups doing innovative, underfunded work.
Supported 11 journalists in publishing almost 20 articles telling the story of the new economy movement through the New Economies Reporting Project.
Gathered representatives from nearly 100 NEC member organizations to attend skill-building trainings; develop a shared strategic direction for the network; and create working groups to tackle key, shared issues.
