Boston is Not Just the World's Most Significant Marathon for Me
I have completed 42 marathons including London, Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, and New York. Participating in and completing the Boston Marathon is the last stop on my World Major tour.
For me, it is the pinnacle of the world's official marathons-runners know there is nothing else like it. Even more than this, I feel a connection to the Boston area.
The last three summers my daughter has had medical internships during her studies in a major Boston medical hospital. Earlier this year I attended my god daughter's graduation from Boston University.
When deciding which of the many officially recognized charities sponsored by the Boston Athletic Club's Boston Marathon I wanted to support, I decided it needed to be about young people. About a place that provides children and teens opportunities to have an even (or better than even) chance to grow and succeed. The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club is exactly that charity.
While the Club is located in Newton (just outside Boston), for one day a year Newton is the home to the Marathon's "Heartbreak Hill" which has broken the spirit of many a runner.
But for me, Newton is the home everyday of a place that provides opportunitites for more than 700 members (many from disenfranchised groups) to have a safe place and a plan for a healthy future. To learn more about the Boys & Girls Club, click here.
With your support, maybe we can help a young person graduate from Boston University or even become a medical student. Give generously and thank you all for your support.
