Too old and too sick, throw away dogs and cats inspired Nancy Benevento, Founder of Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary in Port Clinton Ohio to take action nine years ago. She had the vision and audacity to believe that she could make a difference. With only volunteer help, very little money and extremely hard work, a sanctuary for the unadoptable animals was launched. The dogs and cats that came to the sanctuary were usually in dire need of food, shelter and medical care. They came from the elderly who no longer could care for them, from the streets where they had been abandoned, or from shelters where they were scheduled to be euthanized. Nancy believed that every animal deserved a clean bed, good food, and loving care until they crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
The miracle that followed was not only for the 3,000 + dogs and cats who were rescued and given a safe place to rest their head, but that a good number of them were adopted and found “furever” loving homes. This would be utterly impossible without any financial support. The COVID-19 virus has precluded having the Annual ISHAS Fundraiser, but the veterinary, food, utility bills and rent do not stop. We are asking for help for all those dogs and cats living in the sanctuary and for those that will continue to be rescued and be adopted.
Please help us to support this most important and humane endeavor.
