“I honestly and wholeheartedly believe that the simple act of planting trees with your family, friends, neighbors, and strangers not only benefits the environment but also strengthens your human relationships with the people involved. Thank you for the transformative work you are doing in oppressed urban areas. Thank you for realizing its importance.” - Madeline R., a resident of Newark, NJ
The NJ Tree Foundation’s mission states our dedication to assisting underserved communities in improving their environment and quality of life by planting trees. We focus our efforts on urban and community forestry: the trees that line city streets, neighborhoods, school grounds, and public parks, and the residents who love and care for them. Our programs work directly with residents to plant trees along their streets. Often, the tree planting events are the first time the residents have worked together to make improvements to their neighborhoods. The trees are a catalyst for further positive changes.
Trees do much more than provide important environmental benefits. They inspire and empower people to improve their own neighborhoods in challenging, low-income cities. They change hot streets into enjoyable places to sit outside and converse with neighbors. They bring wildlife into the city for children and adults to enjoy. Planting ten or more ten-foot-tall trees along a street at one time, as our programs do, transforms a city street into a “pocket park” where adults can relax and children can play.
Your donation will allow us to plant trees with residents in urban, low- to moderate-income neighborhoods throughout New Jersey.
