At the beginning of 2019 Father John Corbett began noticing small pools of water on certain areas of the Stella Maris Chapel. Not long after that he began to see cracks along the perimeter of the floor. In short time he confirmed that the building was sinking! Being built on the swamp land of Newark Bay was beginning to take its toll on this sacred building. Not wasting any time, Father John began the task of researching what could be done to save the Chapel. The first action that had to take place was to remove the old floor and expose the foundation slabs. The next action that he decided to take was to contract a company to pump a space aged material under the church and raise it back to life! Amazing Work! The final step was to replace the floor surface. Father wanted to choose the least expensive materials and labor. However, he received special information from St Joseph, Jesus' carpenter Earthly Father that real wood should be used. Of course Father Corbett followed that direction and has chosen the material and is finalizing the contract with the company that is going to bring the job to completion. Funding this project is extrememly important and he and the Community is asking you to please do what you can to help defer the cost of this extensive, mandatory and required work. Any and all financial and Spiritual assistance is appreciated . . . thank you!
