Welcome to our "Million Dollar Mission" which launched on October 25. The Iqaluit Humane Society received the news that the city-owned building we currently operate out of will be demolished spring or summer of 2021. This means we will need to find a new home or our organization will cease to exist. We are working with the city to acquire land and these funds we raise will construct a new building.
The plan is to build a proper shelter so our residents can have even more room and comfortable accommodations. We currently are in a small bachelor size apartment. Our new facility would be a self sustaining multi service Nunavut animal rescue and wellness centre. We are a registered non-profit with the CRA and issue tax receipts.
We are the only humane society in the remote Canadian Arctic territory of Nunavut and help other communities across the vast land. Since our creation almost 20 years ago, we have rescued and re-homed over 10,000 animals. With temperatures often at -40 and being fly-in only, we face many challenges.
