Two weeks ago, on Monday, October 12th, the Dream Machine (our 16ft box truck) was stolen from our warehouse location here in Akron. We have kept the truck parked at this location for two years with no issues whatsoever, however that all changed when security cameras caught someone busting out the driver side window, then hotwiring and driving our truck away at 2:30am. The Dream Machine had become a recognized staple in out community, causing neighborhood kids to come running as we'd pull in for block parties and food distriubtions. This truck was not only a blessing to us, but also to our city, as we used it to pick up food donations and orders, serve as a mobile food pantry, and haul block party supplies, among many other uses.
Three days after the truck was stolen, it was found abandoned in a field in portage county. After being recovered and inspected, the insurance company is calling it a total loss due to the amount of damage done to the vehicle. Thankfully, the truck was fully inured, so we are grateful to be receivign some funds as part of the insurance settlement. With our truck being an older vehicle with higher mileage, the amount we are receiving falls short of what we need to purchase a new truck.
We are asking you to consider giving towards the purchase of a used truck that will enable us to continue the work we do in our city. From block parties that provide games and hot food to children and families, to a mobile food pantry that distributes boxes of food items to line pantries and shelves, your help in purchasing a new truck will enable us to continue in our focus to help dreams come to life by sharing hope in Christ through relief and restoration efforts.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and any contribution you are able to make!
