We are a group of parents who live in or have ties to Nevada County, CA, and are collaborating to raise funds for California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project's (CHIRP) campaign, "In Celebration of Nevada City Nisenan Heritage Month," so that the organization can continue to do its vital work supporting the Nisenan people and educating our community about our collective history.
Additional information about the campaign and the work of the organization, directly from CHIRP, is below.
"We are in a community movement together.
This month (and ongoing), CHIRP will share the history of Nisenan people and the story of the Nevada City Rancheria through interviews, photos, video, song and more in the form of archival, new and not-yet-shared digital content. You will learn about CHIRP projects, uncover information about local history you may not have known and get a deeper sense of Nisenan struggles and accomplishments.
We invite you into learning more about the land you live and work on and through that learning, connect more deeply to home, to Nisenan Ancestral Homelands. By simply engaging this content, you are supporting the Tribe by learning the true history of these lands, raising visibility and awareness, having a deeper understanding of the people who have always been here and were nearly erased.
And we invite you to step further into this community movement by uplifting our campaign: . It is our goal to raise $30,000 by November 30, 2020. $30,000 is a lofty goal for an online fundraiser. And it is attainable if we're in it together. Because these dollars are such an important part of CHIRP's operating budget, we've got to make it happen."
