Dear Friends and Family,
As you all know, I’m on the Board of Directors of The Network (previously known as the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network) and I’m asking you to consider donating in October which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I joined The Network because I know the affects of abuse and I know how much it can impact a life. I believe in (and hope for) a world where women, children and men can live violence-free.
Domestic violence crosses all economic, racial and gender lines- it doesn’t discriminate. It occurs in the place where we are supposed to feel most safe- in our homes and in our closest relationships. Domestic violence is more than just physical abuse. It’s emotional abuse, it’s sexual violence, it’s about power and control. Many of us have experienced it or know someone who has-whether they admit it to us or not. It affects one in three women and one in four men. The lasting impact it has on our communities and its survivors is massive.
The Network is a collaborative membership organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by domestic violence through education, public policy and advocacy. The Network also runs the State’s domestic violence hotline which is open 24/7 and is staffed by trained professionals who can assist callers in over 130 languages.
The Network is a small organization and your support will make a significant difference. Our fundraising goal this October is $35,000 which is a modest amount for the work this organization is doing each year.
I know that we are living in a time where there are so many social injustices that it is difficult to support just one, but I am asking that you sincerely consider giving whatever you can to support our fight. The Network and myself thank you for your kindness and consideration.
