9/2 UPDATE: Day 2 of National Service Dog Awareness Month. My image. Long before I decided to apply for a #servicedog, anywhere I went I would see other service dog team and say to myself, “I wish that was me.” I must admit, maybe I was a little naïve as well because I always approached the owner and asked if I could pet their service dog. I think it was more of just wanting to interact with them somehow because I myself wanted a service dog by my side. There was something largely appealing about the image of having a helper by my side but thinking back to those times, I had no idea the incredibly life-changing journey I was in for. The relationship that I have built with Edison is stronger than ever and when I look at pictures of the two of us I see strength inside myself because he is by my side.
8/29 UPDATE: Thanks to all that have donated! Just like that, together as one, Edison and I completed 7 miles to support NEADS World Class Service Dogs. Our fundraising page will be open for contributions until October 31st, any donations would be so greatly appreciated. You can sure as bet that we are continuing our miles. Our journey doesn’t end here and I’m so glad that you are part of it.
8/25 UPDATE: Edison and I completed another mile yesterday which brings us to three total miles this far! Thank you to everyone who has donated to NEADS to support our efforts! I am so appreciative for all funds that have been raised. Edison and I will be doing another mile tomorrow. Let's go!
8/20 UPDATE: Mile 1 of 7 of my @falmouthroadrace at-home edition complete! ✅ I did the first mile without Edison so I could get in the groove and then he’ll be out with me for future miles. Man, I really need to strengthen my arms. Thank goodness I have my @max_smartdrive power assist. It helped me for some of the time. My hope is over time I can use it less. One push at a time, right? Now, I also have an @apple watch to help track my progress.
8/18 UPDATE: In less than 24 hours we reached our fundraising goal! Incredible! Thank you for supporting an organization that means so much to me. I'm so pumped to get in those miles! I ordered an Apple Watch last night to help track my distance. It's arriving tomorrow!....
It’s official! This year, Edison and I will be joining NEADS World Class Service Dogs at the New Balance Falmouth Road Race At-Home Edition. We will complete 7 miles starting today until August 29th. A donation of any amount will help NEADS continue the amazing work that they do.
Facing the challenges of having Cerebral Palsy isn't easy, but having Edison by my side makes my day much more manageable. He does so much for me to help me get through my day with ease; picking up dropped items, barking only on command to signal that I need help, fetching my water bottle, fetching my canes from nearby or when they fall on the ground...these commands and tasks that Edison knows are all the things and more that truly help me live a more fulfilling life. We are coming up on four years of our partnership and I truly don’t know where I’d be without him. He is incredible and I am so grateful. Having a service dog has been life changing for me. This is the first time that we will be participating in this kind of event and we’re so excited. 100% of the money that is raised through my page goes directly to NEADS.
