Dear ND-BG Alum, Parent, Supporter,
As I write this, it is surreal to me that I am back at the place where so many opportunities began. I was a student here from 1980-1984, and the feeling that I had back then was that ND-BG was a place where you could try every activity, team, or club. That feeling of openness and support allowed me to develop skills that I continue to use 35 years later. Certainly things have changed since Bishop Gibbons and Notre Dame began in the late 1950’s, since the schools merged in the mid 1970’s and since we added the middle school in the late 90’s.
What hasn’t changed is the commitment to a rigorous, college prep, and faith based education. Currently we have 235 students in grades 6-12 that come to us from 3 counties. Our 2019 senior class received more than 4.7 million dollars in scholarship and aid upon graduation and we have a 100% graduation rate. Our students not only succeed in the classroom, but on the various sports teams we offer as well. In fact virtually ALL our sports teams have competed in post season play this calendar year. In addition, our 2019 Mock Trial team was ranked 4th in New York State. Our Spanish department is taught by individuals from Spain and the Dominican Republic. In addition, we have four ND-BG alumni on staff. We have a first of its kind agreement with Siena College allowing our students guaranteed acceptance to Siena upon graduation.
So while I’m writing to update you on your alma mater, I’m also coming to you with a request. As we enter the Christmas season and look back on the year, can I ask you to look back at your time at Notre Dame? Bishop Gibbons? Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons? Are there memories that stand out? Was there an opportunity you had here that made an impact on your life going forward? I know those moments are priceless, but I’m hoping you will take a moment and make a donation to the ND-BG of today.
While we are educating the leaders of tomorrow, we do so on a very limited budget. Your donation to OUR school stays right in this building. It helps with the basics like teacher salaries and utilities, as well as providing skills that are learned on a basketball court, a musical stage, or during a retreat. Of course your donation is tax deductible and any amount makes a major impact on what we provide to our students.
As always, please know that the entire ND-BG Community is grateful for your continued support. We wish you a blessed Christmas and a happy, healthy 2020.
