We were newlyweds, excited to start a family, when my 29-year-old wife died suddenly from a pulmonary embolism (PE) only 8 short months after our wedding.
My name is Chris and my late wife, Katelyn, was generous, thoughtful, joyful, strong-willed, and loyal. She was also a fighter. She had to be…
Katelyn lived with two different clotting disorders, Factor V Leiden and Antithrombin III Deficiency, both of which increase your likelihood of developing blood clots – so she was on Coumadin for life.
But because we were trying to get pregnant, Katelyn had recently switched to a new anticoagulant medication… To the best of our knowledge, that is what caused the PE.
It was a tragic end to a beautiful life that was cut far too short.
I support NBCA to honor Katelyn’s memory in a meaningful way. I’m very concerned that public awareness about blood clots is so low, and more awareness is needed among doctors. NBCA works hard to promote awareness, especially about blood clot risk factors such as genetic clotting disorders, which have affected Katelyn and her family. My hope is that as more people learn about blood clots and clotting disorders, more lives can be saved.
Blood clots are very serious, whether you have been diagnosed with a disorder or not. They are life-threatening and not easily detectible. They can come out of nowhere and change the lives of many in an instant.
Join us in the fight against blood clots.
More people die each year due to blood clots than due to AIDS, breast cancer and car accidents COMBINED. Yet blood clots are often preventable and treatable if you know the signs.
Too many lives are lost simply because public awareness is so low. Fewer than 1 in 4 people know how to identify the signs of a blood clots. Increased awareness will save lives. But we need your help.
This holiday season, we are raising funds for NBCA, the leading nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused singularly on building awareness and community among people who are affected by blood clots. Thanks to the support of friends and family like you, NBCA works tirelessly to prevent blood clots and save lives through programs focused on awareness, patient support, education, and research.
And while we are proud of all we’ve accomplished together, the need for your support has never been greater.
Someone dies every six minutes from a blood clot – and survivors are at higher risk of another clotting event, so the pool of at-risk Americans grows every year. We must act now to combat this medical crisis.
