Dear Family and Friends,
On November 4, 2018 I will be running 26.2 Miles in the TCS NYC Marathon. I am so proud to be running as a member of the Narcolepsy Network Team and forever grateful to the support given to me and my family.
I feel so excited to participate in this great event. I could never imagine ever feeling this type of excitement after the year my family has been through. It is nearly 1 year ago to the day that things changed.
Narcolepsy came out of nowhere. There were no warning signs and it came with many disabling symptoms. Narcolepsy is a rare neurological disorder and currently there is no cure. Many doctors are not even aware of the symptoms or how to begin treating them.
The symptoms at first were random, countless times, of falling asleep.
But there was much more to the narcolepsy than falling asleep. There was no night time sleep...at all and hallucinations. Then there was the cataplexy. Imagine losing all muscle control when you felt any emotion. Laughing at something and then falling down, feeling happy or sad and feeling your body just freeze.
We explained all these symptoms to many many doctors for 5 months before we finally received a diagnosis. But that started more than we could ever imagine. Months were taken away from us. No school, no work, no social life, no living. It was another 3 months until we found Dr. Thorpy.
A doctor who is dedicated to finding relief of the terrible symptoms of narcolepsy.
Currently, multiple medications are relieving the symptoms along with rest and daily monitoring. We have also found that eating healthy and exercise help as well.
Awareness is just the beginning. Children and adults who are suffering with these very scary symptoms must get the proper help. A cure is absolutely necessary.
Please help my family by donating any amount to Narcolepsy Network through my fundraising Page. Your gift has touched our hearts and is truly appreciated.
