As a nurse, Najah Bazzy visited the home of an Iraqi refugee family to help care for their dying infant. When she discovered that they didn’t have a stove, refrigerator or a crib for their baby, she sprang into action to help. Since then, she and her nonprofit, Zaman International, have provided basic necessities, education and vocational training to more than 250,000 impoverished women and children of all backgrounds in the Detroit area.
