Help build a playground in Nairobi, Kenya for children with special needs
You're invited to help the Sisters of Mercy, build a playground for children with special needs, at their rehabilitation center in Nairobi, Kenya.
In February 2020, Noreen Walsh, Mary Kane Richardson, Kelly Hickok McAllister and Annie Korn are travelling to Nairobi, to spend time with the Sisters and make this project a reality.
Please consider making a donation to enrich the lives of these disabled children.
Donations, made to Bridging the Gap with Hope, a California based non-profit organization, founded by Father Lawrence Agi, are tax deductible.
The Sisters currently run many programs at the Mukuru Promotion Center, one of which is the rehabilitation program. Currently there are close to 100 children with disabilities enrolled in the center. Many of these children utilize wheelchairs and other devices for mobility. Because of their assistive devices these children have limited access to the benefits of an outdoor environment.
There is an area next to the center, that the Sisters would like to use as an outdoor exercise/recreation space for the children. The wall around this space has been erected, but the space needs to be leveled and exercise/recreation equipment needs to be installed.
The Sisters dream of being able to see the children enjoying the therapeutic benefits of outdoor exercise and play. Adaptive equipment, such as a swing for a wheelchair, helps teach large muscle control on an unstable surface, as well as being just plain fun. Estimates have been obtained and the equipment is available. Funds are needed to make this dream come true.
Here is the Sisters’ wish list to build the Playground for Children with Special Needs.
The total estimated budget for this project is $18,000 USD.
$5,000 Gabions, hardcore rocks, tonnes (metric) of soil
