Aloha!!! My name is Nadean, and I am an animal rights activist and environmentalist. My passions are advocating for animals, the ocean and wellness. In addition I’m free diver, massage therapist and yoga instructor. Through a series of life events I found myself moving to Oahu. I had only planned to live on the island for a year. I quickly realized I needed to stay in order to help speak for the animals stuck in captivity and help advocate for a healthy ocean.
Over the years I’ve worked with several organizations, one in particular is Keiko Conservation, co founded by my good friend and fellow Dolphin Project Cove Monitor. This group does a lot of outreach, ocean and beach cleanups, and sheds light on the cruelty that takes place in the seaquarium industry. Living in Hawaii, we see a lot of marine animal exploitation. I help organize anti-captivity protests here on the island of Oahu with Keiko conservation. In addition to educating public about the dangers of plastics, making calls, and working to help change legislation to create protection for sharks and other marine life. In addition I have a small clothing line, Sirens Moonlight, which is still a work in progress. My mission is to raise awareness for shark conservation, ocean pollution, and anti captivity. My hope is that these designs are conversation starters, while helping people look fashionable and feel comfortable. Most importantly that proceeds go towards helping animals.
I love all animals. My home has become a safe haven for animals, a micro-sanctuary. In between working and doing ocean conservation I care for injured animals that come across my path. I help rehabilitate and nurture sick animals in hopes to be able to release them again. Often that is not always possible. In that case those individuals live out the rest of their lives on my beautiful jungle property. All the expenses for veterinary and animal care come out of my own pocket, which at times can become expensive. Caring for animals is a passion of mine, and I do it because I see a need that must be met. My tribe includes several species of birds. In addition to birds, I have two rescued dogs, and two rescued cats. Whom, all are the loves of my life.
Why Dolphin Project: I’ve always loved the ocean. To me, there’s something so beautiful about seening another world we know so little about. It feels like home to me. I know the life it provides is so precious, and I want the best for it. I want others to see the beauty it has to offer! I feel like if people would fall in love with the ocean the same way I have, they would start to care and do more for it and it’s life. Since ocean conservation has always been a passion of mine, working with Dolphin Project and going to The Cove in Japan has been a long time dream of mine. Being able to work with so many expert individuals will give me the experience and education I need to continue advocating.
About the Fundraiser: Currently, one of my work places closed leaving me in transition, but also allowing me this time and opportunity to explore some of my other passions and first love... cetaceans. In addition at this time, I am fortunate enough to have someone willing to help me care for my animals, while in Japan, which isn’t always easy. I would like to take this time in my life to go to Taiji, Japan so I can witness first hand the cruelty present in captivity and slaughter industry. By witnessing these atrocities myself I will further solidify my convictions and be a better advocate for these animals. I wish to inspire others to care about this earth and all life. With your help it would allow me this opportunity of a lifetime and I would be forever grateful.
