Meet Sofia.
A child of the caravan. Three months ago, Sofia father, age 20, was told he had to join a gang or be killed. This led to the family’s decision to join the caravan and walk literally thousands of miles to the border. Although they had no money to do so, it was the only option, as it was life or death. The family left behind a humble printing shop business. On Dec. 6, they got news that their aunt, who also worked at the shop, was killed for not being able to afford extortion money for it to operate. We found Sofia walking through the refugee camp on the U.S./Mexican border while doing health checks. Upon meeting her, we learned that she had not eaten in four days due to loss of appetite and illness. She had an advanced bronchial infection, high-grade fever, persistent nose bleeding and appeared gravely ill. She was also already showing signs of malnutrition due to infestation with intestinal worms. We were able to bring her fever down and she has been started on IV antibiotics to treat her infection and fluids for dehydration. She's recovering. Sofia has experienced a lot in her little over one year on earth. Planting Peace invites to help get Sofia and her family off the streets. All donation will go toward housing, continued medical care, nutrition.
