Have you ever had that feeling that you want to do something to help the world, but you just don't know what? Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, society has had to adjust to radical changes, some of them good and progressive, others of them devastating and serious. When we heard about the explosion in Beirut that happened on August 4, 2020, there is no way to explain how we felt. Terrible doesn't even begin to describe it. But we knew that we had to do something.
In response to the explosion, we at the Mounds View UNICEF Club have created a fundraiser, called the Artists of Lebanon, to raise money for the people in Lebanon to try to help in any way that we can. (for specific information, go down the page). After doing more research, not only did we find out that Lebanon is suffering greatly right now, but it has been for a long time. After a 15 year civil war, Lebanon's economy has been suffering, the country currently houses the world's highest concentration of refugees without being able to provide adequate resources for them, and with COVID-19, hospitals are not able to provide sufficient services for all the people who need them. The explosion has only worsened these situations.
The time to help is now. Nearly 80,000 children have been displaced by the disaster, and at least 12 healthcare facilities have been damaged. We need your help. The people, the children in Lebanon, need your help. Don't turn away. Don't ignore this. If you have the capability to put some good into the world, to help a child who has just lost their home, to help people who are in a period of social unrest and have had their lives completely uprooted, you need to do it. The people in Lebanon are counting on you.
